Today in History!

by Edwin T on Apr.01, 2010, under happenings

31st March 2010. A day with history. For the reason that I have graduated from medical school! After 4 weeks of study leave and 2 weeks of professional exam, this is the moment I and all other M.D. UKM of Class 2010 waiting for.

It is the day where our names are announced personally by the Dean of Faculty of Medicine, the respected Prof. Dato’ Dr. Lokman Saim, for us to be officially pronounced as “Doctor”.

There will be a lot of thank you in this post, just bare with me. :)

Thank you God! For Thy grace, I have passed my professional exam. Without Thy guidance and presence on the weary soul of mine, I believe I could not have gone through it peacefully and confidently.

Thank you mommy and daddy! For the abundant love and never ending support both of you have gave me since I am kid. Without both of you, there will be no me standing proud today! Not forgetting also the other family members (especially my aunt, Madam Grace Foo) as all of you had played a great role in this road of success.

Thank you the lecturers! Without you all, who am I today? Special dedication is to Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Shahrir Mohd Said, a consultant rheumatologist who has been sacrificing most of his own time preparing us for the finals since the first day we entered final year. Also Associate Professor Dr. Farihah Hj. Suhaimi, my beloved PPD mentor who has given me so much moral support and her prayers! Well, how can I forget the most important person in these 5 years of medical upbringing, beloved Associate Professor Dr. Harlina Halizah Siraj for she has conceived all of us in her large uterus where we are all well looked after. Now at this moment, I believe we have made her proud!

Thank you my fellow coursemates and now, my colleagues! It is fun enduring these 5 years of studies with all of you. Although there are ups and downs, all moments will be imprinted in our memories forever! Hooray to all my study group mates! And my lil bro & buddies too!

Thank you all my friends and the bloggers who had left their good luck wishes in my comment box throughout the exam period. It is motivating even a simple “Good luck!”.

Thank you too, all those whom their names are not specifically mentioned but trust me, all of you had played a significant role!

Awaiting ahead is my 2 years housemanship training, starting in early June roughly. A tough training ground  for all medical graduates where things learnt are put into practice. Praying that God continues to lead me and making me a safe and competent doctor who shines His glory!

With love,

Dr. Tioh Beng Siong M.D. (UKM)

What A Relief!

by Edwin T on Mar.26, 2010, under happenings

After 2 weeks of toils and snares (just exaggerating. Haha), my professional exam has finally ended today on the historical date, 25th March 201o. The run is officially over and thank God for His grace and love upon me throughout the times during the professional examination, both theories and clinical.

Got a surgical-based long case in the morning today. The patient is still investigated for rectal carcinoma (colon cancer in lay term) and she is one of the few nicest patients I’ve met all these while! Not to forget my helpful PK who had been so supportive. Thank God for His guidance, I was still manageable to present the case smoothly and to answer both Prof. Razman and Prof. Lee’s viva questions even though needing some probing sometimes. This is the first time in my life that I realize that 45 minutes passes by in just a blink of eyes. Woosh! And the time is up!

Short cases in the afternoon were done pretty well, I supposed. Got to perform an abdominal system examination to Dr. Ramesh (Neurologist); spine examination on a patient with herniated nucleus pulposus at L5 to Mr. Sri Subanesh (Orthopaedics Surgeon); a counseling session to a patient who wished to have trial of scar observed by Prof. Norzi (Consultant Obstetrician) and the last station was a brief history taking session to diagnose a patient with Bipolar I Disorder currently in manic phase in front of Prof. Hatta (Consultant Psychiatrist). At that moment, 1o minutes is likened to 1o seconds! I didn’t even realized time passed until the bell rang.

Heartiest gratitude and millions of thank you to all my examiners! They are great and very encouraging. Done all the clinical exam under a tension free condition. It’s really a relief! For the perfect arrangement of God. :) I just wanna say: “God is good, ALL THE TIME!

5 years of medical school and today it has marked its end. Currently gotta patiently wait for the result to be announced on 31st! Wish me luck! All all the best to all members of MD (UKM) Class of 2010 too! We shall call each other “Doctors” that day!

P.S. Celebrated Teik June’s birthday with a bunch of friends at Redbox Low Yat. Post celebration gathering at my room with Albert, Julian, Yu Jun and Teik June. I believe we did have great time tonight!

Great time gathering together!

Great time gathering together!

Amazing Grace

by Edwin T on Mar.19, 2010, under faith, happenings

Theory papers are all done. Thank God for His grace. The week went by smoothly and amazingly, He granted me a peaceful heart whilst facing the exam, which I’d never felt before. What left for me next week is only clinical exam i.e long case AM and manned OSCEs PM. Yet, it is the most crucial one and the determinant of the overall passing of this professional exam. Thursday! That’s my big day. :)

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

36 Hours

by Edwin T on Mar.13, 2010, under deep in the heart, happenings

In 36 hours, the first paper of my final professional exam will start. Yet I fell sick this morning. Strongly I believe that the 3 mouth ulcers (stress induced?) since last week triggered the recurrence of my tonsillitis. Three episodes in 3 months and I am absolutely fulfilled the indication to go for tonsillectomy. Perhaps really need to undergo the operation after the exam.

Fever, headache and sore throat somehow have affected my function. Especially in this critical period to do the final revision on subjects which I’ve long left e.g. Public Health and the 3 minor postings. However, it is really heart warming to receive all the good luck messages from friends and relatives. :)

Go! Go! Face it with positivity!

P.S. It is so excited to see my fav Lady GaGa has released her “Telephone” music video.

P.S.S. Sorry to Albert, my study mate for the not up to par discussion this few days. Everything will be fine real soon!

Happy CNY!

by Edwin T on Feb.12, 2010, under deep in the heart, happenings

Today, I officially ended my last day of medical student in posting. This indicates my study break for the upcoming professional exam in March has also started. Thank God for His mercy and love on me. I am less anxious these few days after getting closer to Him again in prayers. :)

I had a recurrent tonsillitis again, i.e. I need to complete another course of antibiotic during this CNY. However it doesn’t mean I’ll take this as a reason to say no to all the good food around. Haha. The stomach needs to be pampered before the brain can work. True?

I couldn’t wait any longer to reach home but ironically, the train has not even arrived yet. While waiting, I browsed through Youtube looking for the CNY videos and I love this the most. 大团圆,大团圆!Promise myself that I’m gonna spend quality time with my family these few days.

Happy CNY to all! Remember to drink more water in the midst of hot weather. Enjoy! Both the holiday and study leave. LOL
