M.I.A Part 1
by Edwin T on Nov.29, 2009, under happenings
Gone missing in action (MIA) longer than a month, but I went home twice. Both are impulsive.
The first time was meant to celebrate Deepavali with my nanny, who had taken care of me while my mom went to work when I was still a small kid. She is one of the best friends my mother has. Indeed, a childhood playmate of hers too.
I call her Mak Oi. But I don’t know why. It just happens naturally
My mom told me I abbreviated “Ah Mak, oooi..” in Hokkien ‘coz I seemed to be unable to pronounce the vowel “A” properly that time. Haha~
Mak Oi loves me like my mother does. And I do love her too! That’s why I try to spend some time with her whenever I go back to Kulim, at least on this special day – DEEPAVALI.
Oops. I think I forgot to tell that my Mak Oi is actually a charming Indian lady. Too bad I couldn’t pick up the language. Or else it will be easy to take history from some old Indian uncles and aunties now.
This was taken during Deepavali celebration many years back (at least 15 years ago, I think). Guess who is me.
This is the most recent photo of Mak Oi and family. She is already a grandma of 3 now.
My all-time favorite dishes from Mak Oi: Non-sourish Thosai, home made healthy chicken curry and instantly melt-in-mouth custard cookies! Thank you Mak Oi!
P.S. second homecoming was at the end posting weekend. Just don’t feel staying in KL.

Hey! I went to Kulim yesterday. My mother stays there, and we spent our time at Sungai Kob eating dishes of fish.

Kelang Lama Laksa has one branch at Juru, another one at BM. Ice Kacang is also not bad. Have to mention Cai Kueh next door to Kelang Lama Laksa, not bad as well.
Lunas Roasted Duck? Of course.
And then, how about you? Hehehehe…home sick?
