Standing Above the Clouds – Sungai Lembing
by Edwin T on Jun.02, 2010, under happenings, jalan-jalan and/or cari makan
The trip was almost a month ago. It is just that I am too lazy to write a post until now. I presumed that holiday is the cause tho’.
(This post is originally written in Mandarin in my Facebook. English translation is made for the convenience of my English reading readers.)
On May 5th, 7 o’clock at night, we began our journey from KL to Sungai Lembing by driving. In a small group of four, we started off the trip which we had been saying over the past one year.
We reached our destination at 10pm and checked in Sungai Lembing Hotel & Cafe, runs by a local. Looking at these clean and tidy rooms we booked before our arrival, we were much satisfied.
The double-room is awesome! Well equipped with a hot shower and air-cond. Clean towels are provided too! Surprisingly, it costs us only RM30 per person for a night. The values really worth!
Look at our smiles of joy!
The sleep bugs attack! And it was the time for rest before waking up early the next morning. Way up to conquer Bukit Panorama!
It was just 6am when we reached the look out point. However there were already many people reaching earlier than we did, waiting patiently to see the sun rising. Can been seen that Bukit Panorama has its own attraction!
At this moment, what portrayed in front of my eyes was the beautiful sea of clouds. The locals told me: This is the nearest place to heaven. I admitted.
In just a while, the sunlight started to brighten the dark sky into colors. Turning it into a breath taking natural drawing!
I shouted out loud in my heart, saying: We need to preserve this lovely mother nature of us!
From here, we could see an isolated mountain – Bukit Panching. It is said to be there for billions of years by the archeologists.
We took our first group photo. Physically we were tired (Perhaps we had not been exercising for too long a time? Haha~) but all of us were very joyful deep down our hearts.
Looking at the beautiful natural scenery, I felt regretted. I should have brought a DSLR!
Even my god brother and sister-in-law couldn’t resist the romance of sunrise and leaned against each other, enjoying the sweetness within.
Finally I saw the sun! Others were very exciting too ‘coz I could hear them shouting in excitement!
Even the sea of clouds had been painted red! Nice!
Everybody was busy taking photos and of course, me too!
These photos, are my favorite!
When the sun started to warm us up, we knew it was time for us to go down the hill. It was just 8am by then.
Comparatively, it was much easier going down the hill to when we first came up!
Moreover, we could look at the beautiful natural reserve.
While walking down, I looked on my right side. OMG! I love this place so much. How I hope I could see it everyday in my life.
Hehe. They were already hungry yet I was still busy taking photos, letting them to wait in hunger.
For breakfast, we chose the best stall available. It sells the most delicious Yong Tau Foo I have ever eaten. Ichiban!
While this is the “ketchup noodles”. First time trying it, tastes sweet and sour. Not bad!
This is the Yong Tau Foo I mentioned just now. It has the texture similar to Tau Foo Fah! Very special and making me wanting for more.
There is an old trunk growing in the middle of the town. I think, it should be at least a hundred years.
I guessed, it has witnessed the glory and the deterioration of Sungai Lembing, and now its re-development!
The relationship between my god brother and sister-in-law is likened to an one-way highway. Further down the road, longer and more stable. Dear God! Do shower Thy blessing on them.
In the afternoon, we went to Sungai Lembing Museum. There, I learned to know the history of this town deeper.
Not far away from the museum, there is an old ex-miner housed nearly 3000 different types of crystalline stone collection in his residence.
These beautiful crystalline stones are all belonged to Mr. Lee Yon, a 69-year old man. But when he shares us the stories behind his collection, his voice and laugh are projected as energetic as a young man!
He told us, this is the most precious piece of stone he has. A gift from God, he said.
At the back yard, he has replicated a model of underground tin mine where he previously working, himself, for the young visitors to see. Appreciating his effort in teaching us a different kind of experience!
Of course! Each of us didn’t want to miss out the chance of “mining tins”. Haha~
Suspension bridge is another unique tourist spot belongs to Sungai Lembing. Indeed it is a place for photography too. Although I have acrophobia, it feels still fine walking on the “swinging” bridge. Haha~
On the bridge, I saw the river of Sungai Lembing. It is hard to believe that it causes flood at this place every year end.
Oh! I shouldn’t have forgetten to introduce this thingy. The one and only gasoline station in town. Just a fuel pump tho’!
In this small town, it doesn’t have the hectic and busyness of a city. Just a simple faith the people are holding – Be peaceful!
I saw the economical potential of tourism can bring to Sungai Lembing in this 2D 1N short trip of mine. Believing it is able to replace the past mining era. What it needs is just time.
We left at 4pm. But I promised myself that I will surely come back. ‘Coz it has brought me to a place, where I stood above the clouds!
P.S. Well, I must go to the Rainbow Waterfall on the next visit! Must! Wee~
D’lish Delicious!
by Edwin T on Mar.30, 2010, under happenings, jalan-jalan and/or cari makan
Well, I never fail to get good food every time going out with Auntie Bee Hiong who is a food enthusiast, just like I do! Definitely there is an endorphin surge even talking about good food solely.
This time around, we went to D’lish at Bangsar Village. Having tried its “3 mice, 3 musketeers, 3 course meal” for dinner at a nett price of RM33 per person (drinks excluded), I would like to say the values worth!
D’lish Bangsar Village Interior
I took minestrone soup as starter, chicken Kiev with side salad as main course and a piece of flourless orange cake as dessert (I am amazed by its texture and it tastes very good!). Gonna try on D’lish smoked salmon next time. It looks very tempting!
Starter: Minestrone Soup
Bin Hoo’s order on starter: Salt & Pepper Calamari on arugula.
Main course: Chicken Kiev with fries and salad.
Bin Hoo’s order on main course: Beef Wellington with broccoli salad.
Really gotta thank Auntie Bee Hiong for her treat(s) (which is going uncountable now!). I really hope that I do not burn a hole in your pockets.
My favorite quote of her from our the conversation yesterday is:
“If you are aging, I’m aged. Therefore the total collapse of metabolism. Don’t even need to eat, smell food only will propagate.”
LOL! This will be an all time classic.
Thank you Auntie Bee Hiong. It is really nice knowing you! Looking forward to see you again after my graduation. And my turn to foot the bill okay?
From left: Bin Hoo, me and Auntie Bee Hiong (Note the cakes on the table. They are the desserts!)
M.I.A Part 4
by Edwin T on Dec.25, 2009, under happenings, jalan-jalan and/or cari makan
One of the most memorable events happened during the period I went M.I.A was to celebrate my beloved buddy, Ms Jia Hui’s 23rd birthday. I thought I was clever enough in giving surprises but ended up her cleverer. My surprises are all tak jadi (failed) surprises. So lame. =.=
I tasted disappointment initially but when looking at her enjoying the celebrations (a total of 2 birthday celebrations: 1st one at Wings Music Cafe Bukit Bintang while the 2nd one at McD Taman Connought), it worth more than anything.
1st celebration at Wings Music Cafe:
First time around and I was pretty impressed by its ambiance. Set dinner is offered at promotional price until 8.30pm everyday and it is worth trying it!
Met with the singer of the night, Chee Beng, who is talented to sing songs in treble.
While Alex is another guy around that night. Both of them are warm to their guests and I believe their friendliness is the key factor for us to befriend now.
Thanks to them too, I had the opportunity to sing on the stage to the other diners. Buddy, the song is dedicated to you for all time. Remember okay?
2nd celebration was at McD Taman Connought (15 November 2009):
It was a simple yet with the presence of our 2nd year buddy, 6who drove all the way from Titiwangsa at 12am alone, the celebration was made special. That night, we took quite a number of nice photos!
Happy 23rd Birthday, again!
P.S. All photos are courtesy of Jia Hui 2009.
M.I.A Part 3
by Edwin T on Dec.24, 2009, under happenings, jalan-jalan and/or cari makan
Every time I go to Teluk Intan for postings, I will be chronically deprived from easy internet access. While the current is the longest i.e. 3 weeks! It is beyond imagination how terribly I look when developing internet withdrawal (Just exaggerating.)
Continuing from the previous post (M.I.A Part 2), both my buddy and I went to have a good dinner at Ichiban Boshi Pavilion, which is one of my favorite restaurants, serving Japanese cuisines. Instantaneously, once I got back from Teluk Intan Medical posting.
Unagi sandwiches were in my buddy’s hand!
I was so into its Japanese style beef curry and the excellently-taste Unagi Sandwich. I don’t eat raw sushi and definitely Ichiban Boshi is a good place to choose from as it labels all sushi so no one will get mistaken. The price is also reasonable for such a good dining experience.
Japanese style beef curry comes in a set of four dishes (RM 20+)
Before going back after the dinner, we decided to redeem the free karaoke session at Greenbox Sungei Wang Plaza using the voucher that I got a few months ago before it expires. Well, singing is a good way to release tension I supposed, at least for we medical students.
But while waiting for us to be seated, I shot a few photos (which I think they are good!) of my buddy. Actually I did just realize that, she indeed has some hidden potential in modeling right? Especially after looking at my works. Hehe.
Last Sunday was Dim Sum Day!
by Edwin T on Oct.07, 2009, under happenings, jalan-jalan and/or cari makan
Sunday morning is a free day. And if you couldn’t come to anything to make it meaningful, think of food especially the good one. It will brighten the rest your day with a good mood!
Edwin Tioh
Last Sunday morning, I went to Old Hong Kong Kitchen (off Jalan Imbi) again with Bin Hoo and Auntie Bee Hiong. It was already two months ago since the first visit but I never get bored with the variety of foods served. Perhaps, the warmth welcoming and friendly smiling from the staffs are the main factors for the revisiting.
This time, we had dim sums which I have been craving for months. Worth to give a try at Old Hong Kong Kitchen (and I found the food quality is comparable with Federal Hotel dim sum)! Nevertheless, all dim sums come with a 50% discount! So it is almost like a “buy 1 free 1″ offer.
Too bad, I don’t know until when this promotion will last. Hope I can still enjoy this special promotion after my internal medicine posting. Definitely will go again myself after the posting! Just to say sorry to my Muslim friends / readers, these dim sums are non-halal. Sorry.
Yam puff (Wu Kok) and Fried carrot cake.
Char Siew Pau.
Shanghai style dumpling (Siew Long Pau).
My all time favourite: Prawn dumpling (Har Kau).
Meat dumpling (Siew Mai).
Pork ribs (Pai Kuat).
Steamed glutinous rice with chicken (Lo Mai Kai).
Hong Kong style porridge with century egg.
Thanks to Auntie Bee Hiong, again. For both the treat and letting me know about this promotion. It is indeed a good news for food lover like me! Haha~
